Energy is a great place to live for many reasons. With a population of 1146 persons, it is centrally located near the Rt. 13 corridor that runs East and West in Southern Illinois. This means that residents have close proximity to shopping and services in Herrin, Marion and Carbondale and all the areas in between.

Weather is good with an annual chance of sunshine of 54.67%. Average High temperatures in July are 87.2 and lows in January of 19 degrees. The UV index is moderate and the average annual rainfall is 46.96 inches. Air quality is great with an average Air Quality Index of 95.85%.

Right in back of the Village Hall is Bruce park with a large playground for the children and pavilions under which to have family gatherings and BBQs. Only a few miles south on 148 is Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge offers opportunities for boating, fishing and wildlife observation. At the Refuge Center, wildlife programs and tours oriented toward the entire family are held frequently. Family is important in Energy.

The crime rate is very low. Only 19.05 with the national average being set at 100. A vigilant police force helps to keep these numbers low.

Williamson County Airport is close by offering a jumping off point to St Louis and beyond. Car rental is available as well as flight instruction.
